Practical Motorcycle Test

The practical test is split into two modules. You need to pass them both within two years of passing the Theory and Hazard Perception Test.

Multi Purpose Test CentreMODULE ONE

This includes the following specified manoeuvres and takes around 10 minutes to complete:

  • On and off the stand
  • Wheel the machine
  • Slalom
  • Figure of eight
  • 30 kph / 19 mph circuit ride
  • 50 kph / 32 mph avoidance
  • Controlled stop
  • U-turn
  • Slow ride
  • 30 kph / 19 mph circuit ride
  • 50 kph / 32 mph emergency

We use the Multi-Purpose Test Centre (MPTC) as part of our training programme to ensure our customers get valuable training time on the site where their test will be conducted and are properly and thoroughly prepared for their Module 1 test.

This has a double benefit as all of the required exercises will be practised on the site where you will take your test and you will become familiar with the size and layout of the course during practice sessions and mock tests.

MODULE TWO

This is the on-road module and takes around 40 minutes. This module includes the eyesight test, the Vehicle Safety Questions and the road riding element that will cover a variety of road and traffic conditions.

You will be asked to carry out normal stops, an angle start (pulling out from behind a parked vehicle) and, where possible, a hill start. The examiner will normally follow you on a motorcycle, using a radio to give you directions.

You can learn more about the practical test in a video from the DSA, which provides a step-by-step demonstration of both the test modules.
