Compulsory Basic Training
The fun starts here…
Even if you have never been on a bike before, our instructors will put you at ease and have you riding before you know it!
Before we start you need to show us both parts of your driving licence to prove your provisional entitlement, then we begin with an eye sight check. You MUST be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres (or 67 feet) before you can carry on and complete your CBT.
The 5 elements set out by the DSA are covered as follows:
A. Introduction
Firstly, we will take you through the safety factors of riding and introduce you to the appropriate clothing needed for safe riding. We will look at a range of products such as helmets, jackets, trousers, boots and gloves.
B. Practical On-Site Training
We will then introduce you to the motorcycle, their controls, stand, mirrors and the necessary basic riding checks such as checking your mirrors, checking your blind spot and applying your lifesaver check.
C. Practical On-Site Riding
The first controlling skills you will learn on the bike are stopping & starting, and throttle control. You will ride in straight lines at first so you get a feel for the bike.
Once you have mastered this technique we then move on to slow control, gear changing which can sometimes be difficult to pick up but with our expert tuition we are confident we can get your skill mastered.

We then move onto emergency stops and junctions (ie. left and right turns). These tasks apply the previously learned tasks all rolled into one, combining gear changing, throttle control and manoeuvring the bike.
D. Practical On-Road Training
After all the practice and learning we have a pre-road-ride talk just to make sure we are all fully aware of the highway code and what to expect on the road.
E. Practical On-Road Riding
We finish off the day on the road applying all the skills you have learned.
We do the majority of the road skills on quiet roads so you can build up your confidence and road awareness skills.
After a day of expert training you will be skilled, confident and eager to get onto the road or into higher learning.
This is where the real fun starts!
